Vale Billy Wrencher ~ Photographer, director and an untamed spirit

(Billy judging a Northern Rivers Photographic Prize)
When the ‘Pommie Invasion’ was in full flight back in the 70s and 80s it wasn’t just the imported writers and art directors that were lifting the standard of creative work in Australia, it was the back-up troops they brought with them. Directors, producers, retouchers, illustrators, typographers and of course a group of high quality photographers. Billy Wrencher was one of that group. Billy and his producer Wife Ouida, made an excellent team – that together made their mark on advertising at the time.

Here is a short piece written by Billy’s long time friend and TV producer Ian Ford. ....

Councils in Tayside and Fife are to leave roadside and park grass verges uncut as part of a “rewilding” drive – but some community groups still oppose the plans.
Local authorities in Fife and Dundee have been accused of trying to cut costs under the guise of biodiversity and putting public health and road safety at risk.
It comes after a study by Exeter University found councils letting roadside verges go wild could bring huge environmental benefits.
Sites across Dundee and Fife are being considered for “naturalisation” after public consultation.
In Dundee most city parks, as well as along the Esplanade in Broughty Ferry, are in the frame for greater wildlife zones. ....

Winchester City Council approves car park plans in Bar End

WINCHESTER City Council has been warned it could be taken to court after plans for a new multi-storey were approved.
Campaigners had begged chiefs to change their mind over a new 287-space car park on the former Vaultex site in Barfield Close.
They said the structure, which will stand 15 metres above Domum Road, will negatively impact the environment, residents and a South Downs National Park walkway.
But at a planning committee on April 22, seven councillors voted to approve the proposals, whilst one abstained.
On behalf of Domum Road residents, Ian Ford said: The council has completely failed to recognise the off-site implications of the proposals and leave themselves open to a legal challenge. ....
