Dec. 24 (UPI) City council members in Murdock, Minn., population 273, have approved a permit allowing a Whites-only group to use an abandoned Lutheran church as a regional site to gather.
The 3-1 vote on Dec. 9 to approve a request by the Asatru Folk Assembly for a conditional use permit had nothing to do with beliefs or race, according to a statement by Murdock Mayor Craig Kavanagh. He said the council felt legally bound to approve the permit after being advised by multiple legal sources that denying the request could be a violation of the AFA s religious rights. ....

A box of food delivered by the Sanneh Foundation awaits a family in St. Paul. The foundation, started by Tony Sanneh, a former Major League Soccer player, works with 10,000 kids a year with soccer and other activities. After COVID-19 struck, the foundation began providing free meals to families in need. The pandemic exacerbated a hidden hunger problem in a state where 1 in 8 are now hungry, up from 1 in 11 before COVID-19.
It was 35 degrees as the sun went down on Thanksgiving in Minnesota, and Kaitlin Knutson grabbed an armful of cardboard dinner boxes and ambled her way through tents and dead leaves. Knutson headed one way and her co-worker went the other, asking the usual: “Anybody home? We’ve got some food.” Like many places in the Twin Cities, hope and hopelessness are never too far away from each other, and this homeless ....

Bricelyn – Arlen Spencer Legred of Bricelyn died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 at Parkview Home in Wells. A celebration of Arlen’s life will take place this summer. Please see www.brussheitner.com to leave online condolences. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Arlen Spencer Legred was born to Thomas and Marie Legred in rural Brush Creek on Jan. 19, 1933. He lived most of his life in the Brush Creek area, with the exception of two years in Killen, Texas, while he served as Corporal in the Army.
He grew up farming with his brothers and caring for his little sisters. He was a hero at the age of 10 when he carried out his younger siblings from an early morning house fire. ....
