Following the Isla Vista Recreation & Park Districtâs decision to transition Peopleâs Park back to its recreational capacity â which would subsequently force houseless residents currently living there to leave the park â the non-profit, volunteer organization Food Not Bombs organized a community gathering around the encampment beginning June 1 to support the houseless residents.Â

Following reports of gunshots from Isla Vista residents near Sueno Road, the Isla Vista Foot Patrol pursued a potentially armed suspect late Friday night into early Saturday morning. The fleeing suspect was not apprehended.Â
Isla Vista Foot Patrolâs (IVFP) Community Resource Deputy Justin Schroeder said that the suspect shot their gun by 6631 Sueno Road. According to Schroeder, the residents of that location refused to provide any information and did not press charges.Â
Schroeder told the Nexus Saturday morning that IVFP âfound a bullet casing, but there were no cooperative witnesses, no damage, no victim and no suspect identified.â
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and UCSB took to and endorsed an education-first model in response to large gatherings thrown by students.
