Proving that necessity is the mother of invention, officials at Conley’s United Methodist Church have transitioned the church’s after-school program to a new online show for children.
For years before the pandemic, students attended Conley’s Youth Connection in person after school, the Rev. Dr. Bill Davis said, and church leaders had discussed offering the program virtually. ....

BUFFALO, N.Y. Niagara Pride is launching a virtual program to help bring resources and information to the local LGBTQ community.
In the past, the group would hold traditional in-person health fairs, but is now turning to online options.
On Friday, the center will hold its first Lunch and Learn program via Zoom. Niagara Pride released a schedule of sessions that will be held on the third Friday of each month, through August. ....

Bulo Eyle is an underdeveloped slum settlement in Nageyle section of Karan district in Mogadishu, Banadir region. The majority of the residents, estimated to 2,400 households, live in poor iron sheet houses in a highly congested settlement with narrow streets. Casual labour activities, such as washing clothes, wheel barrow carriage, repairs, building-related masons and small petty trade, are the main livelihoods. Bulo Eyle does not have a main market and the residents have to commute to the nearest markets in Karaan to access both food and non-food items. ....

Ford Dream Builders students celebrate foster youth with birthday cheers [The Bakersfield Californian]
Dec. 20 Everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday, especially young children who may not have family members to throw grand celebrations every year.
A group of high-achieving high schoolers selected for the Ford Dimension and Dream Builders program has made it their mission to have the community help create birthday cards and celebrate local foster and homeless youth.
Each spring, the Jim Burke Education Foundation accepts 32 high school juniors to participate in the program. Students are split up into four teams and they gain leadership, career and life skills as they create and implement service projects that meet a community need. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, made meeting up and working on projects together a bit trickier. ....
