Ashley Okland was 27 when the real estate agent was killed on April 8, 2011, in West Des Moines. Okland was an employee of Iowa Realty Co., and had been showing a model townhouse when she was killed. A Rottlund Homes employee had heard a commotion inside the model townhouse at 558 Stone Creek Court, and when the employee went inside to investigate, they found Okland on the floor, shot twice, according to IowaColdCases.org. Medics rushed Okland to the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where she later died. The case remains unsolved. Who was Ashley Okland? Okland was born Dec. 30, 1983, in Ames, Iowa, according to her obituary. She grew up in Huxley. As a youth, she was involved in sports, dance, 4-H and piano. She attended Ballard High School. Young Variety date night fundraiser goes virtual Friday, January 22, 2021 10:40 AM Young Variety, the young professionals’ arm of Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa, will take its Charity Date Night fundraiser virtual this year, offering a Valentine’s Day date night charcuterie package for donors to enjoy at home. Young Variety is partnering with One Board Gal, a local charcuterie business, to offer the packages, which can be purchased through Feb. 5 at www.varietyiowa.com. Packages must be picked up between 4 and 6 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines. Each package includes two 8-ounce charcuterie boxes by One Board Gal, a bag of Almost Famous popcorn, cookies from She Bakes Cookies, cookies from One Sweet Kitchen, and a bottle of wine.
