Guiseley made the short trip to Ben Rhydding for their pre-season opener against newly promoted Ilkley Town, and put on a show. Coming up against a side four divisions below was also going to favour the away side, however they turned on the heat to win 7-0. After just two minutes, Lebrun Mbeka climbed above everybody to plant a header over the keeper for the Lions opener. Twelve minutes later, Jake Day edged the keeper to a high ball on the edge of the area, to claim his debut goal for the Lions.
