Three guards of a pro-democracy protest group have been arrested for allegedly throwing ping-pong bombs at crowd control police during a protest at Sam Yan on Jan 17.
The three suspects were identified as Pornchai Prakaphuang, 23, Natthasut Siriat, 19 and Weerayut Samritruangsri, 29. They were arrested and charged with physically assaulting on-duty officers, throwing bombs, having weapons in a public place without good reason and possessing explosives without a permit.
The three were apprehended, while the clothes they wore on Jan 17 and two motorcycles they used while throwing the bombs were confiscated, police said.
Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phukphong Phongpetra said yesterday that the explosions at Sam Yan injured five people, including three police officers.

Investigations are underway to find the culprits behind the alleged abduction of a member of the Free Guards group, police said on Monday.
Police spokesman Pol Maj Gen Yingyos Thepchamnong said Mongkhol Yel Santimethakul filed a complaint with Samut Prakan provincial police claiming he was abducted by a group of men claiming to be officers of the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc).
After leaving the rally site, Mr Mongkhol, 23, said he discovered he had lost his keys. A man and his friends immediately offered to help him retrace his steps to find them, but instead bundled him into a waiting van once they were out of sight of the anyone else at or leaving the event.

Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, deputy commissioner of the MPB, said an initial check found two suspects riding on a motorcycle on the Thai-Japanese Bridge threw a ping-pong bomb down on a group of anti-government demonstrators outside Chamchuri Square.
Kidnapped Free Guard found

A member of the Free Guards group reported to have been kidnapped by state security personnel was found near the BTS station in Samut Prakan s Bang Phu area on Sunday afternoon.
The Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) denied any involvement in Mongkhol Santimethakul s disappearance.
Mr Mongkhol, 23 and nicknamed Yel , was accompanied by lawyers yesterday when he lodged a complaint at Samut Prakan police station claiming he had been kidnapped.
He told the media he was hustled into a van by five men at 11pm on Saturday as he went to shop at a 7-Eleven store on Phraeksa Road in Samut Prakan province.
