The peninsula s 2,500 acres of cherry orchards are a destination visited each year by visitors in search of spring blossom photo ops and, later in summer, opportunities to pick their own cherries. Yet the trees aren t native to the area. In fact, growing cherry trees in Door County started as an experiment; they were among various fruit crops planted on 80 acres in the late 1800s.
