Lieutenant General Pat Donahue what difference just five years makes to the U.S. Army’s mission. He’ll tell you it’s virtually a world away.
“When I parted the service in 2017, after a 37 year career, the primary mission was counterinsurgency in Africa and the Middle East,” said Donahue. “Today the Department of Defense’s focus is the great power competition with Russia and China. There’s growing emphasis, too, on readiness to address tensions within the Indo-Pacific region.”
Donahue, who now works with Lockheed Martin, helps the firm translate mission realities into future technology programs. As the Army adapts its operations to oceans and islands, it will also shift strategies to countering well-resourced, highly disciplined and technologically-advanced militaries.
Martha Raye
The Special Forces soldiers called her “Col. Maggie.” At their request, she is buried along side them at Fort Bragg, the home of the Green Berets.

Everyone should know the story of Martha Raye…A true patriot….. Buried in my memory banks, I was at her USO show when on Stration in Phu Bai just South of the DMZ in another life. Some memories fade, but her dancing in an all white outfit is still very vivid. Another life, another time, but the memory remains….Kind of glad it does…..

The presence of women in space dates back to Russian cosmonaut Valentia Tereshkova who went beyond Earth s atmosphere on Vostok 6 in 1963.
It wasn t until 20 years later that Sally Ride became the first American woman in space when she flew aboard the Space Shuttle STS-7 in 1983.
In the time since female astronauts haven t slowed down and continue to make history. The most recent example can be found in 2019 when Christina Koch and Jessica Meir became the first to complete an all-female spacewalk.
But their significant contributions don t stop short at participating in milestone moments for the space agency, they ve also played a large role in advancing the program.

MENDON, N.Y. (WHEC) Two of the New York Army National Guard members who lost their lives in the helicopter crash in Mendon on Wednesday, grew up in other parts of the state, but had made Rochester their permanent home.
Chief Warrant Officer Steve Skoda is from Johnstown, New York. He was a 35-year veteran of the Army and the New York Army National Guard. He flew UH-1 helicopters for nearly 30 years and as a senior instructor pilot taught and mentored hundreds of other soldiers. He was twice deployed to Afghanistan.
“He was, to my estimation, with everything that has gone on with our country lately, he was the embodiment of a real American, a real patriot. He dedicated his whole life to flying all over the country rescuing people and he believed in it. He didn t have to go to Afghanistan two years ago, he was the senior man but he felt it was his duty and he went and he went for a year at age 54,” Skoda’s friend and neighbor
