Two indicted after woman caught in crossfire near Killeen Mall


Two Killeen men were indicted by a Bell County grand jury earlier this week on armed assault charges after police said they shot a woman who was caught in the crossfire during an incident at a convenience store last year.
Zaveon Hakhem Cummings and Emilio Ivan Terrazas, both 19 years old, were indicted on second-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Terrazas was not listed in Bell County custody on Wednesday but Cummings was being held in jail in lieu of bonds totaling $224,000. In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Cummings is facing charges of theft of property, a second-degree felony; tampering or fabricating evidence, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor charges of evading arrest or detention and unlawful carrying of a weapon. ....

Killeen men plead guilty to unrelated robberies in the city last year


Two Killeen men pleaded guilty this week to committing unrelated robberies in the city last year.
In the 426th Judicial District Court on Tuesday, Omari Javion Green, 29, pleaded guilty to a first-degree felony charge of aggravated robbery after police said he used a firearm to rob an elderly drug store clerk last year.
Green was indicted by a Bell County grand jury on Aug. 19, 2020.
In an unrelated case that was heard in the 27th Judicial District Court on Monday, Anthony Patrick Bear May, 22, pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony charge of robbery after Killeen police said he beat a woman and took her money during an incident last year. ....

Donations to help Killeen ISD with literacy efforts


Two Killeen area leaders recently provided a special donation of customized student-written books and a grant to enhance literacy efforts throughout Killeen ISD schools.
Brockley Moore, a longtime supporter of the school district, presented a $3,000 donation to the school district through the Seen and Unseen Hands organization.
Those funds will assist reading and writing literacy efforts as needed.
Another Killeen resident, Kris Price, donated 320 books, most with a personal touch.
Her new literacy program features books written by local students. The books are meant to encourage children. They promote character building and ideals such as setting goals and considering career options. ....

Two Killeen men indicted on unrelated charges of assaulting public servants


Two Killeen men were indicted by a Bell County grand jury earlier this week after police said that officers were assaulted during separate alleged incidents.
Dekari Marquel McBean, 25, and Jorge Ivan Perez-Calderon, 28, were indicted on third-degree felony charges of assault of a public servant. Perez-Calderon was being held in the Bell County Jail on Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $213,000. He is facing two other third-degree felony charges, deadly conduct discharging a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and misdemeanor charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, resisting arrest, search or transport and false alarm or report. ....
