A group of Broncos players that included Justin Simmons, Alexander Johnson, De Vante Bausby and Diontae Spencer met virtually with Governor Jared Polis on December 21 to urge him to use his clemency powers to decarcerate state prisons not only as a way to push back against mass incarceration, but also to mitigate the threat of COVID. The governor has the power to use his clemency powers to help some of our prisoners that are at risk and meet the criteria of minor charges, not being a threat to society, having a stable home to return to, and, for those that can work, having a job set up. It just seems like a no-brainer, says Simmons, the Pro Bowl safety for the Broncos (and possibly the best player on the team not named Von Miller). ....

As part of the Denver Broncos Inspire Change program, the organization announced on Thursday a $250,000-plus donation toward player-designated social justice programs throughout Colorado as well as individual players local communities. More than 30 players participated in the review, voting and selection of five Colorado programs and organizations to each receive $40,000 through the team s Social Justice Fund (Restorative Practices Program – The Conflict Center, Know Your Rights Training and Education – ACLU of Colorado, Colorado Freedom Fund, Second Chance Center and Second Wind Fund). These designated initiatives are in the focus areas of Education & Youth, Bail & Criminal Justice Reform and Community Mental Health Resources (more information about each recipient organization below). ....
