It’s just first-come/first-served. We got 75 bags in total stuffed with activities and nutritional items for kids for the spring break,” says Heathcote. Heathcote says the Kiwanis Club of Fort Frances is helping with the activities.

Safeway Customers Come Through For Salvation Army

Safeway store manager Krystle Whiteley presents cheque to Salvation Army s Arthur Heathcote. More support for the Salvation Army in Fort Frances – this time, coming from Safeway. The store collected $3,798.24 in donations from customers during a campaign in December. Store Manager Krystle Whiteley is pleased with that support. “The community was very receptive as always. They showed up to support one another and the families in need over the holidays, and we were just more than happy to be a part of that,” says Whiteley. The Salvation Army’s Auxiliary Captain Arthur Heathcote is appreciative to those who contributed. “The community is not only concerned about homelessness, but they’re willing to do something about it too, and that’s in the very tangible way where we are able to see this $3,700 came out of the customers’ pockets. That demonstrates care,” says Heathcote.

Walmart Helping To Fill The Kettle Saturday

Saturday is Walmart’s Fill The Kettle Day across Canada in support of The Salvation Army. Lieutenant Colonel John Murray is the Salvation Army’s Communications Secretary for Canada and explains just what that means for donations made at the kettles. “Walmart Canada will match donations (made across the country) up to $100,000,” says Lt-Colonel Murray, “which is an absolutely extraordinary and generous gift.” He says all donations are greatly appreciated. The Salvation Army is feeling the COVID-19 financial crunch just like everyone else. “Right now, we’re about $3,000,000 behind (nationally) the same time last year. We’re seeing not as many people out in places like malls, coupled with the fact that many different provinces and cities are in various stages of lockdown across the country (due to COVID-19).”
