Article content A new warming space has opened for some of Kenora’s most vulnerable people at the First Presbyterian Church. The space in the lower hall of the church on Fifth Avenue South will be open seven days a week from 4-9 p.m. The hall will provide snacks and a warm place for Kenora’s homeless community to have a safe space to come to. The clinic was providing primary care to the city’s homeless population on Main Street and shut down due to noise complaints from neighbouring tenants. ....
Compassionate Kenora is still looking for a space for their programs in the new year. Dr Jonny Grek is one of the founders of the outreach program and understands why they have to leave their current location on Main Street at the end of this month. “You know we have a number of neighbours all around us and those neighbours really need quiet,” explains Grek. “We don’t want to create any problems for anybody. We’re hoping in a new space, with less wall sharing neighbours that we are able to allow people to feel they able to express themselves in our space without upsetting anybody that’s around us.” ....
Compassionate Kenora is getting three thousand dollars to help it through the winter. Miisun Integrated Forest Management. made its annual donation for those less fortunate in the community. Ray Morgan works at the storefront operation on Main Street and says they still don’t quite know where they will local in the new year. “As to right at this moment, nothing is completely concrete but we definitely do have some places we are eyeing up and offers are being made currently,” says Morgan. Morgan adds with the colder weather this week, there is a definite demand for the services, “the cold weather has definitely brought the people out. It’s a great place to sit down and warm up for a while. There’s lots of good company. We always have meals going on…things like that.” ....
