Total : Ousted lawmakers, rights groups urge Total to suspend Myanmar payments

PARIS (Reuters) - Myanmar s parallel civilian government and rights groups on Tuesday called on Total and other oil firms operating in the country to suspend payments to the military-controlled state following last month s coup.
The calls come a day after Total said it was worried about the situation in Myanmar, where scores have been killed in demonstrations against the Feb. 1 coup, while also stressing the importance of its gas projects in the energy-starved country.
The coup has left international oil companies with operations in Myanmar with no option other than to suspend their relationships with the military junta, the parallel civilian government said in a letter addressed to Total and posted on its official Facebook page. ....

Fonterra enjoyed a 17 per cent lift in its operating earnings over the first half but chief executive Miles Hurrell says high milk prices will make for a challenging second half.
The co-op has forecast
a $7.60/kg milk price for the season, which will represent a higher input cost for the group.
This is not new to us. We have been here before, Hurrell told the Herald.
While it puts pressure on the earnings side of the business, it is good for farmers, he said.
We need to look through that, but the team is under no illusions around what is required, he said. ....

Fonterra said a standout performance from its Greater China business helped drive its normalised operating profit for the six months to January up by 17 per cent to $684m.
The co-op also said it would pay a 5c interim dividend after opting not to pay one in the previous corresponding interim period.
Fonterra s reported net profit came to $391m, down 22 per cent.
After being normalised the figure came in at $418m.

Fonterra kept to its full-year forecast normalised earnings forecast of 25-35 cents per share. ....

A major $30 million water project to secure Whangārei s urban water supply for decades to come is almost ready to start flowing.
Whangārei District Council water services manager Andrew Venmore said the project has been a major undertaking in the 10 years since the decision was made to upgrade the current treatment plant at Whau Valley.
The plant currently produces about 60 per cent of the city s water supply, boosted by smaller treatment plants at Poroti Springs and Maunu Springs. ....
