ICC Reaffirming its support for reparative justice and the related mandates of the Trust fund for Victims (TFV) at the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Government of Ireland has pledged a voluntary contribution of €300,000 contribution to the TFV this year. This marks a significant increase in its annual contribution, which amounted to €200,000 in 2020, and demonstrates Ireland’s strong support for the TFV and its critical work in support of the reparative justice function of the Rome Statute. The voluntary contribution will be equally divided, with €150,000 assigned to the reparations mandate and €150,000 to the assistance mandate. ICC On the 8 April 2021, the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court elected Mr Andres Parmas from Estonia to the Board of Directors of the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV). He was nominated by consensus by the Eastern European group of States Parties. Mr Parmas will continue the term of office of Mr Gocha Lordkipanidze, who was sworn in as a Judge at the International Criminal Court on 10 March 2020. Following his election to the TFV Board, Mr Parmas stated “Reparations and assistance to victims must go alongside the prosecution of those responsible for the commission of serious crimes – only this gives true meaning to international criminal law. Therefore, we must strive still for an even stronger and more capable organisation to carry out this task. Bosco Ntaganda today by the Trial Chamber VI. This is an important step in responding to the long-lasting harm that victims in this case have suffered. This decision marks the beginning of the implementation phase of reparations. The TFV is committed to ensure that victims receive the collective reparation awards with individualised components, as ordered by the Chamber. The Chamber recalled the large scope of the case and the potential large number of eligible victims and thus set the total reparations award for which Mr Ntaganda is liable at US$ 30 million.
