On a normal year, we would be heading to Springfield this week to take in the Springfield Sportsman’s Show, held annually at the Big E fairgrounds in West Springfield. This extravaganza always had plenty of things to see. There would have been outfitters representing hunting and fishing adventures across New England, the United States, Canada and the world tempting us with dreams of great hunting and fishing opportunities.
Tackle reps would display the latest in fishing and hunting gear to let us see how much new stuff we “really” need to invest our hard-earned dollars in to enhance our outdoor experiences. Add to that the gadgets and clothing, along with almost any imaginable accessory, and it was always a welcome break from the winter’s cold. Always held during the February school vacation, the crowds came from across the Northeast.
