Ricketts: Nebraska discontinuing its Directed Health Measures, mask mandates prohibited in state office buildings

Gov. Ricketts announced Nebraska s DHMs will expire at midnight tonight.
Additionally, Ricketts has issued an executive that says face masks and coverings are not to be required by any state agency. The order also prohibits masks mandates in any State of Nebraska office building.
Under this new executive order, state employees who had been working remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic will return to in-person work arrangements. An exception will be made for any teammates who position is considered work-from-home for non-COVID-19 purposes.
The governor is also rescinding several executive orders that had been issued during the pandemic. The orders below are to be officially rescinded on June 1. ....

UNK’s Chancellor’s Cabinet reports that effective Monday, Feb. 8, the university’s pandemic response status moves to Phase II. All students, employees and campus visitors are required to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth in all public and shared environments on campus.
To slow the spread of the virus and keep UNK safe, please comply with the following Phase II protocols:

People diagnosed with COVID-19 must be cleared by UNK’s Public Health Center before returning to campus activity. Those in contact with positive-tested or symptomatic individuals must contact the PHC at 308.865.8279 and may be required to quarantine and be cleared by PHC before resuming campus activity. ....

Local News: New COVID-19 cases drop below 100, first time since October (2/3/21)

McCOOK, Neb. New COVID-19 cases have dropped below 100 for the week for the first time since October, according to Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department officials
While the number of new cases is still high 71 it comes as a relief to public health workers and the hospitals and clinics who have been under a heavy burden since the fall wave began.
With the drop in hospitalizations statewide, Gov. Pete Ricketts has moved the state into the green zone for Directed Health Measures. That means fewer restrictions on gatherings while other requirements are still in place. The new DHMs also have additional guidelines on who is required to quarantine after close contact with a positive case of COVID-19, with exceptions for those who have been positive in the last 90 days or have been fully vaccinated. SWNPHD continues to recommend taking precautions when out in public and avoiding the 3 Cs: crowded places, close contact and closed ....
