According to Gujarat government records, there are 450 retired government employees – including officers – who are not vacating government houses allotted to them although they have retired from service. Meanwhile, there are some 4,195 government servants who have applied for government accommodations, as per government data till October 2020. The state government says that eviction proceedings have been initiated in court against 119 retired government employees, while necessary paperwork is being prepared for initiating eviction proceedings against the remaining employees. Interestingly, even as 450 employees are unwilling to vacate government houses despite retiring from service, the number of applications by government employees for government houses in the state capital is piling up. As of October 31, 2020, there were over 4,000 pending applications for government houses.
