Independent Crop Consultant Shannon Winny of GroWest Ag Ventures uses a tool called FarmQA to keep track of everything she’s seeing in the field and communicate that to her farmer customers. Winny… “So I use it for soil sampling. I use it for scouting. I use it for it anytime I m out in the field. It s just my way of creating that paper trail and being able to document, you know, how many weeds I m seeing, what weed species they are, what insects I m seeing. Being able to share that with my growers so that they can see that in real time as well.” ....
Klamath Basin Farmers Look to Groundwater, Fallowing Land Wednesday May 19th, 2021 News Reporter With California Ag Today, I’m Tim Hammerich. The Bureau of Reclamation announced it would be shutting down the Klamath Irrigation Project’s A canal which typically delivers water to farmers along the California/Oregon border. Family Farm Alliance Executive Director Dan Keppen says many farmers will pump groundwater if they can, or fallow land. Keppen… “With no surface water out there, people are looking to use groundwater and the state of Oregon has, has issued emergency drought permits to allow people to pump groundwater. On the California side, the Tulelake Irrigation District has some wells and they re working out a program to sort of parse the water out down there. But it s not sustainable. I mean, you can only go to it in times of need and then allow it to replenish. And this ll be the second year in a row where we re hitting the groundwate ....
Building Drought Resilience News Reporter With California Ag Today, I’m Tim Hammerich. Water issues continue to be the most pressing threat to many of our state’s farmers and ranchers. Here are a few updates courtesy of the California Farm Bureau Federation. With farmers plowing under crops and removing trees due to water shortages, irrigation districts are trying to find supplemental supplies. Districts on the west side of the Central Valley face the prospect of receiving no water from a federal project. A gubernatorial drought declaration intends to streamline water transfers. Water district officials say transfers could “play a key role” this summer, but won’t prevent significant agricultural losses. ....

Well, in fact, ablation is here almost each and every year. In fact, going all the way back to 1955, the mid 1950s, there is only one year in that entire stretch that dates back to the time that our parents, for you and me, our parents are born, there s only been one time that we did not have inflation in a given year. That was back in 2009. So inflation is with us almost each and every year. Now the inflation rate that we see right now over the last 12 months, if this continues, this will be the most inflation we ve seen in a given year dating back to 1991. ....
