Woman admits to lighting house fire

A MUM of six has pleaded guilty to deliberately lighting a fire that destroyed a Lowood house.
The woman, 32-year-old Nakita Amy McGee, appeared before Ipswich District Court on Wednesday and made a formal plea of guilty to wilfully and unlawfully setting fire to a building at Honeyeater Place at Lowood on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
Dressed in a bright red dress, McGee simply said guilty Your Honour , when asked how she pleaded.
McGee was convicted of the arson then sat quietly in the dock for the remainder of what was a brief court appearance.

A FAMILY man busted with $68,000 in cash, a sawn-off shotgun and more than 8kg of marijuana has claimed he was simply holding onto the items for his outlaw bikie cousin.
Crown prosecutor Cecelia Bernardin told Ipswich District Court on Monday the marijuana was stored in cryovac bags, with some drugs also secreted in speaker boxes and an esky in the bathroom of the Goodna family home of Henare Thompson-Pouoa.
During his sentence, the offender claimed he was to receive $2000 for looking after the drugs and cash for his relative, who he said was a Bandidos member. ....

Pest controller ripped off in $122K bug fraud

A PEST control company fell victim to a $122,000 fraud committed by a trusted employee who stole its termite and insecticide chemicals then sold them online.
In the Crown prosecution case, Rameces Manguerra was employed at Termx Replenishment Systems in Acacia Ridge in charge of stock control when he began stealing.
His crime only discovered when the company was sold by owner Colin Davies, who an Ipswich court heard was left feeling ‘betrayed’.
Manguerra, 42, from Springfield Lakes, is now behind bars after being sentenced in Ipswich District Court on Thursday to a four-year jail penalty.
He has previously repaid the company $130,000. ....
