A hugely successful three-day showcase of the best of freestyle skiing wrapped up on Saturday in Utah, where aerials competition closed out the 2021 Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International in typically spectacular fashion. There Danielle Scott of Australia made a triumphant return to competition with the women’s win, Noe Roth (SUI) went all-out for top spot on the men’s side, and the host US squad put three athletes on the podium to close out another phenomenal week in Deer Valley in style. ....

Owens first, Johnson third in Deer Valley dual moguls
Kai Owens, center, and Tess Johnson, right celebrate Friday’s podium.
Avon’s Kai Owens won a dual moguls event Friday in Deer Valley, Utah, with Vail’s Tess Johnson in third. Here’s the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team release:
Day two of mogul competitions at the Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International ended with a bang as three Americans, Kai Owens, Hannah Soar, and Tess Johnson triumphantly stood on top of the podium at the base of Deer Valley’s Champion course. Loads of fresh snow and low visibility didn’t stop 16-year-old Owens from capitalizing on Thursday’s career-best to earn her first-ever World Cup win (despite only having 10 World Cup starts under her belt). Owens bested her teammate Hannah Soar in the big final to take the win. This marks the first time in history that Americans have swept a dual moguls World Cup competition, and demonstrates the might of the #powHERhouse wo ....

With a daylight start time and the absence of the thousands of fans who gather, year-in and year-out, at the bottom of the Champion Run to take in the action on what is one of the world’s best moguls courses, Thursday’s Intermountain Healthcare FIS Freestyle Skiing moguls World Cup at Deer Valley Resort (USA) certainly had a different vibe than we’re used to.
What
was familiar, however, were the two skiers we saw climb to the top of the podium once competition had wrapped up on the imposing Champion Run, with Perrine Laffont (FRA) defending last year’s Deer Valley MO title for the women, and Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) making a triumphant return to competition with the victory for the men. ....

Against the odds, the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup is set this week to get down to business at one of one of the longest-running and most esteemed venues in all of freestyle skiing, as from February 4-6 we’re on site once again at Deer Valley Resort (USA) for the 2021 Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International moguls, dual moguls and aerials World Cup competitions.
This season’s Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International marks 23 years that Deer Valley Resort has played host to international freestyle skiing competition, including the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, the 2003, 2011 and 2019 World Championships, as well as 18 iterations of the Deer Valley World Cup freestyle extravaganza.
