Mexico s rambutan season slow to start, resulting in strong demand
Rambutan from Mexico is getting a somewhat delayed start to the season.
“It’s behind about two weeks. We should have started two weeks ago with low supplies and by this week, already getting a lot more volume,” says Yasmani Garcia of Sweet Seasons in Hidalgo, TX, adding that the quality of the rambutan is strong. “I think it’s because of the weather many things are behind this year because the weather is just slowing things down.”
Rambutan from Mexico goes generally until November. “The only difference this year is there’s probably going to be a few weeks with more intense volume. Peak supplies are during the month of August and September,” says Garcia. ....

Three Havens Artworks came to be because area resident Linda Gaugert and her husband were interested in commercial real estate.
The two purchased the former Sweet Seasons building at 101 Three Havens Dr. in Alexandria in 2004. Although they didn’t set out with any specific plans for the space, Gaugert began envisioning it as an art gallery as renovations were completed.
She sold her first painting when her friend asked her for a landscape piece. And at the time, she was still working as a physical therapist at the Douglas County Hospital. ....

Lighter South African lychee season coming to an end
Lychee supplies are wrapping up out of South Africa.
Yasmani Garcia of Sweet Seasons in Hidalgo, TX says the South African lychee season is a short one it began in November and the company just received the last load last week. “It was also a shorter crop season maybe eight loads in total,” says Garcia. He also notes that Sweet Seasons flies in the small loads to cover the season, though other shippers have also done loads via boat.
“I expect to stretch the load I have here for maybe two weeks so we’ll cover the rest of January. Then we’ll have a 10-week gap,” he says. By mid-April, Mexico should be coming on with supplies which will go through to mid-August. Then another two-month gap takes place until South Africa begins shipping again in November. ....
