With the ease in lockdown restrictions coming in to play, Waldringfield SC were able to run their annual Easter Egg event over Good Friday and Easter Saturday. A cracking turnout of seventeen RS200s took part, all WSC boats, as the Club had sensibly decided that running an Open event was not an option.
Good Friday arrived cold, grey and blustery with 16-18 knots of breeze, and the prospect of 2 x back-to-back races over a rising tide. Race Officer Geoff Sinton set a M shaped course, using all of the available space upriver from the Clubhouse. the course also benefited from a lack of moored yachts parked on the race track! Race 1 got away cleanly and it soon became apparent that the Videlo brothers - Stephen & Chris (1447) - were on excellent form, pulling out an impressive lead to take the win from Uni Students Archie Penn & Alex Bell-Jones (1179) and Ed Harris & Archie Goodhead (1340).

Most observers were agreed that it would be Britain’s America’s Cup challenge sinking without trace in Auckland last week. The humiliating nature of Ineos Team UK’s defeat in a warm-up regatta just before Christmas - six defeats out of six in a boat which looked like a seriously expensive dud - set alarm bells ringing in the sailing world.

RORC Transatlantic Race update: Black Pearl retires in big conditions by Louay Habib 10 Jan 16:16 GMT 9 January 2021
The IRC56 Black Pearl, sailed by Stefan Jentzsch, contacted the RORC Race Management Team at 11:30 UTC on 10th January to report that Black Pearl is retiring from the race and heading back to Lanzarote. All are well on board. Black Pearl was approximately 20 miles west of the island of El Hierro, some 250 miles from Lanzarote. The RORC Race Team and Marina Puerto Calero will be standing by should Black Pearl require any assistance.
At 1200 UTC on the second day of the RORC Transatlantic Race, the leading boats had left the Canary Islands behind and were at full pace, blasting into the open seas of the Atlantic Ocean. It will be many days before the sailors see land once more.
