Hyundai and LG Energy Solution will build an electric-car battery plant in Indonesia together.
According to industry insiders on Tuesday, the two companies will invest some US$1.2 billion in a battery plant with an annual capacity of 10 GWh worth of batteries or enough for 125,000 high-powered electric vehicles in Karawang, an industrial city near Jakarta.
The plant is expected to begin operation in late 2023. Indonesian Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia told local reporters that construction will begin soon and the batteries manufactured there will be used in Hyundai s EVs.
Hyundai is also building an auto plant with an annual capacity of 250,000 cars in the Kota Deltamas industrial complex in Bekasi near Karawang. It currently produces internal combustion engine cars but will also start making EVs next year.

The coordinated marine patrol cooperation was marked by the inking of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) held virtually on Monday by representatives of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (BAKAMLA), Indonesian Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister (KKP), Australian Border Force (ABF), and Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA).
