Last December, a record-breaking storm caused landslides and flooding around Southeast Alaska. In the roughly 100-person town of Tenakee Springs, the storm destroyed a bridge that provides vital access for a handful of residents. Now, the community’s turning to crowdfunding to help rebuild it.
On Dec. 2, Tenakee residents awoke to find their beaches littered with logs as big as two and a half feet in diameter. Gordon Chew was part of the clean-up crew at the time. ....

MARQUETTE The Hiawatha National Forest announces that as part of the Great American Outdoors Act six local projects have been selected for fiscal year 2021.
The selected projects will be the first round of improvements to address deferred maintenance on the Forest while improving visitors’ experiences.
These projects are part of the $285 million investment made possible by the newly created National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund, established in 2020 by the Great American Outdoors Act. These funds will allow the USDA Forest Service to implement more than 500 infrastructure improvement projects essential to the continued use and enjoyment of national forests and grasslands. ....

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (WTXL) â Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday the final signing of Florida s $90 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America Grant.
The grant allocates money to help with the rebuilding of the Indian River Bridge and roadway improvements to Space Commerce Way in Merritt Island.
The $126 million bridge project includes new high-level fixed bridges that replace the current twin draw bridges that were built in 1964.
Bridge enhancements will provide critical support for large vehicles that are necessary for future space launches, said a press release from Gov. DeSantis office. ....
