New Delhi May 13 : The International Road Federation (IRF), the Geneva-based global body working for better and safer roads worldwide, has written to road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari urging him to circulate the scientific guidelines developed by the Indian Road Congress (IRC) for identifying and treating the blackspots in the country.
The blackspots / grey spots removal from the road network definitely makes for a distinct and measurable difference in the road safety outcome in the states as measured through their accident / crash data records. VIJAYAWADA: Faulty road engineering, bad designs and lack of signage boards to restrict speed limit on various roads are the major reasons for the rise in the number of road accidents in Krishna district, as per a study conducted by Transport department officials and road safety experts on NHs and state highways passing through the district.
As per the information provided by department, a total of 1,951 people were killed in road accidents across Krishna in the last three years (since 2018). As many as 1,380 road accidents were reported and 2,422 injured in 2018. About 2,458 accidents occurred during 2019. Of these, 702 persons lost their lives and 2,704 were injured. Last year, the district reported 1,846 accidents claiming the lives of 570 people and inuring 1,846. ....

BIS providing services on Indian Standards free of cost: DG

The services of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) are now available free of cost for everyone, BIS Director General P K Tiwari said in his virtual address to the media on Tuesday.
He said, for the benefit of industry, particularly the MSME sector, Indian Standards are now available free of cost, and can be downloaded from the Standardisation Portal of e-BIS.
Standardisation of production is planned to be achieved through a combination of processes engineering, automation and manpower augmentation, he said.
Towards this, BIS arranges quarterly meetings of sectional committees, stage-wise timeframe for every standard under development or revision, makes action research an integral part of the process and broad-bands consultation process through standardisation cells in ministries and industry associations. ....
