Brightline: Indian River County ends lawsuit

Indian River County requested to drop its final lawsuit against Brightline Trains, LLC, and Florida East Coast Railway, LLC, Wednesday.Brightline is currently developing and operating an express passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando, with the bulk of the rail in Indian River County using Florida East Coast Railway s (FECR) existing railroad right-of-way.The last lawsuit pertained to the cost of installation and maintenance of the Brightline highway-railroad crossing safety improvements, according to a memorandum by an attorney with Indian River County.There are 32 locations where the FECR intersects with an existing roadway, according to the settlement agreement.Sen. Debbie Mayfield worked with the Florida Department of Transportation, the state legislature and Brightline so that Indian County would not be responsible for paying for the improvements requested, according to the memorandum.She noted during a press conference ....

Marvin "Joe" Curry Powwow cancelled for second straight year

SALAMANCA, N.Y. An annual celebration of Native American culture will not take place for the second year in a row.
Organizers announced the Marvin Joe Curry Powwow is being cancelled out of an abundance of caution related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Seneca Nation of Indians has presented the event for the past 30 years up until the virus outbreak.
We had been hopeful to invite our family and friends from Indian County back to the Allegany Territory this year, but we feel that it s in everyone s best interests to instead focus on 2022, said Seneca Nation Councilor Tina Abrams, co-chair of the Powwow committee.  ....
