INDORE: India’s first female cricket commentator Chandra Nayudu died at the age of 88 on Sunday after battling a prolonged illness at her residence, confirmed her nephew over the phone. Nayudu was the daughter of legendary cricketer C K Nayudu, the first captain of the Indian cricket team in test matches who led the team in the country s cricket debut at Lord’s in 1932. Nayudu, a retired professor in English, is best remembered for her cricket commentaries in the 1970 s. She had a long association with cricket since childhood and played domestic cricket for a short span followed by commentaries in cricket. She was also the life member for Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA). ....
The elevator had apparently got overloaded. INDORE: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath and some of the most senior Congress leaders of the state had a close shave on Sunday when an elevator of a private hospital dropped from the ground floor to basement all of a sudden, apparently because it got overloaded. INDORE: The population of Egyptian vultures the only species seen in Madhya Pradesh s Indore and surrounding areas has witnessed a sharp decline in the last few years. The population of these vultures has decreased from nearly 83 to just 15 during the last four years, claims a survey conducted by Indore-based Nature and Wildlife Conservation and Awareness Society. Presence of feral dogs at the trenching grounds also prevents movement of vultures in the area. Cops with the seized contraband in Indore on Friday INDORE: Indore excise department on Thursday carried out raids at two places and seized large quantity of illicit liquor being prepared at the spot, which is ‘unfit’ for human consumption and can cause serious health issues. The department’s action came at the time, when at least 24 people died in Morena after consuming ‘poisonous’ liquor prompting state government to remove district collector and superintendent of police and forming a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter. “Acting on a tip-off, we carried out a raid at Mewat Hayat Dhaba (highway hotel) situated on AB Road near Manpur in Mhow tehsil and seized around 90 litre of overproof spirit, which is unfit for human consumption. Besides, the team seized 25 empty drums from the spot, which were kept for storage of spirits,” assistant excise commissioner Raj Narayan Soni told TOI. ....
