TWO wings of the green movement are at loggerheads over a proposed solar farm near Alresford. There have been more than 500 objections from country lovers angry at the plans for a solar farm at Godsfield north of Old Alresford. But the green group Winchester Action on Climate Change is urging its supporters to express strong support for the application. By Monday more than 110 people had expressed their support for the application. In a post on Instagram WinACC said: “Too many people are opposing the planning application for the new #SolarFarm in the parish of #Alresford. We need this to succeed. We are only going to need more electricity as we swap to electric cars and electricity to heat our homes. ....
Those questions used to be thought of as straightforward. In the immediate postwar period, a mix of socialist principle and concerns about the health of the British people came together to create the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 â a law designed to open up the land to everyone. The national parks were of course the flagship achievement: but the act was also supposed to lead to a definitive map of rights of way in England and Wales, with local councils drawing up a draft version within just three years. It never happened: many customary paths were indistinct; conflicts between landowners and those who wanted access to their fields were too acute; and the whole process was far too complex to administer, let alone finalise. ....
PLANS to protect and maintain a popular open space for generations to come have been welcomed by local organisations. South Lakeland District Council has published plans to better manage Kendal Fell, which includes the creation of a code of conduct for users, signage and a focus on maintaining and promoting nature conservation in the space. The finalised plan used feedback from a seven-week consultation that was held over the summer of 2019 to understand how people felt about the use of the fell. One major concern raised was about the loss of important wildlife habitats and changes in the character of the fell and the need for a new management plan to protect the landscape. ....
Users of Kendal Fell have helped shape new plans designed to protect and maintain the popular open space for generations to come. Kendal Fell is a registered Town Green, owned by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), leased by Kendal Golf Club (in part) and maintained for the environmental and amenity benefits it provides to the public, including its use as a golf course. A seven-week consultation was held over the summer of 2019 to understand how people feel about the use of the fell. The feedback from the consultation has been used to finalise management and action plans and a code of conduct for fell users. ....
We, the undersigned, express our deep concern about the latest proposals for the expansion of Permitted Development Rights in England. These proposals will lower housing standards and accessible natural green infrastructure provision, extinguish local democracy, and end public participation. Communities and their local councils have simply lost control of many of the forms of development that matter most to them. Permissions for over one million new homes are already in place but not built out according to the Local Government Association. There is little case to be made that the current system does not deliver consent for development. Existing permitted development rights have resulted in what the Government’s own report has called poor quality homes. Much less funding is going to local authorities as a result of these changes. Councillors and MPs across the spectrum have voiced their deep concern at the size, quality, amenity, design, location and climate ch ....
