2021: UMass Dartmouth student named to Massachusetts Department of Higher Education "29 Who Shine"

Maggie Sullivan ’21, of West Roxbury, Massachusetts was celebrated by Governor Charlie Baker at a virtual ceremony as a “29 Who Shine Award” recipient. The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education award honors 29 outstanding students, one from each public institution, in the Class of 2021. Sullivan, who is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Leadership and Civic Engagement with a 4.0 GPA, was chosen for this prestigious student award for her work increasing the educational aspirations of students in SouthCoast communities.
“It’s an honor to win the “29 Who Shine” award. I am so thankful to UMass Dartmouth and all of the wonderful opportunities I have had as a student here. Working with the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement on campus allowed me to work in the community and gain invaluable leadership skills. LSU Health pulls medical residents from Shreveport veterans hospital ICU


Removing those doctors-in-training happened on April 1, according to Dock Voorhies, who chairs a VAMC retiree group.
I wondered if it was an April Fools joke, Voorhies said,
But he says he confirmed the move when he spoke with LSU Health Shreveport s Interim Chancellor Dr. David Lewis on Monday evening. Voorhies says he s concerned about the care of the sickest of our sick veterans.
They need close observation. They need somebody who is there and available to intervene as their medical condition changes, Voorhies said.
Voorhies is also a former social worker and chaplain at OBVAMC. He says the medical residents provide round the clock diagnoses and provide treatments under the supervision of a doctor. ....

PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey has signed into law a bill, SB1453, allowing community colleges to offer limited four-year college degrees.
The governor’s signature is the climax of years of efforts by advocates who worked to find alternatives to what critics argue is the expense for residents to get four-year degrees at Arizona’s three universities.

UMass Dartmouth Will Hold In-Person Graduation This June
NORTH DARTMOUTH The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will hold in-person, on-campus graduation ceremonies this June.
According to a post on the university’s website, Interim Chancellor Dr. Mark Fuller informed members of the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 that there will be multiple graduation ceremonies the weekend of June 11, 12 and 13.
Commencement ceremonies typically take place in May, but the university opted to hold them in June this year in order for those will be in attendance to have more time to become vaccinated against COVID-19.
Fuller said that the state requires that “the ceremony must be kept as brief as possible.” ....
