Bajrang Dal men booked in stabbing case
Four Bajrang Dal members were arrested and booked for attempt to murder for beating and stabbing a 23-year-old man who was accompanying his former classmate to Bengaluru from Mangaluru on Thursday night.
The four were also booked for assaulting the woman with intent to outrage her modesty and rioting among others. The man was travelling in an overnight bus with a woman from another community. Based on the womanâs complaint, an FIR was earlier registered against unidentified assailants at the Kankanady town police station.
In Thursday nightâs incident, a group of 5-6 vigilantes waylaid the bus at 9.30pm. âThey stopped the bus, saying they knew a girl travelling in it and wanted to talk to her,â police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said.

New Delhi: Responding to a petition challenging certain provisions under the Special Marriage Act (SMA), the Centre has informed the Delhi high court that the procedure and conditions, including the 30-day notice for solemnisation of a marriage under the Act, are “fair and reasonable” and in consonance with the intention behind the statute.

New Delhi: The Bombay high court on Tuesday came in defence of an interfaith couple and the right of a woman to ‘move as per her own wish’ in a habeas corpus petition that was filed before it.
Indian Express, the court made these observations while disposing a plea filed by an MBA student, asking that a 23-year-old woman whom he wanted to get married be produced before the court. The petition said the woman was “illegally detained” by her parents because they opposed the couple’s relationship because they were of different faiths.
