By Mike Sprague Dekanalog will release director John Hsu’s Taiwanese festival favorite Detention in theatres and virtual cinemas nationwide on October 8th. The supernatural drama was called “One of the best horror films of 2020” by Set in 1962 Taiwan during the White Terror martial law period. Detention tells the story of Fang Ray Shin (Gingle Wang), a female student at the hillside Greenwood High School. She attends counseling with teacher Mr. Chang (Meng-Po Fu) and they gradually fall in love. It was a dangerous period where sensitive books were banned and free speech was restricted, but Mr. Chang has secretly organized a study group for banned books. ....

This year’s European Film Market, which started yesterday and runs until Friday, is being held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency said in a statement. The agency’s participation in the trade fair is aimed at increasing international visibility of Taiwanese films, creating opportunities for international coproductions and investments in them, and connecting Taiwanese projects and film professionals with the international market, it said. ....
