Soekarno ternyata banyak menuliskan pandangan Islamnya di sejumlah media cetak. Namun, tulisannya justru memunculkan polemik di media.
Seperti yang ditulis Fathoni Ahmad di nu.or.id, salah satu media yang pernah memuat polemik pandangan Islamnya Soekarno ialah Berita Nahdlatoel Oelama sekitar tahun 1936.
KH Saifuddin Zuhri dalam Berangkat dari Pesantren (2013: 141) mengungkapkan bahwa majalah resmi Hoofd Bestuur Nahdlatoel Oelama yang saat itu dinakhodai oleh KH Mahfoedz Siddiq tersebut pernah berpolemik dengan Bung Karno tentang “Islam Sontoloyo” yang oleh Kiai Mahfoedz Siddiq dinilai sebagai kedangkalan pengetahuan Bung Karno mengenai Islam.
Selain itu, salah satu tulisan Bung Karno di sebuah media pers yang berjudul “Memudahkan Syariat Islam” juga ditanggapi oleh Berita Nahdlatoel Oelama dengan sanggahan bersifat pembelaan terhadap Syariat Islam. ....
