Doha: Qatar has emerged as a permanent destination for over 300 types of migratory birds, thanks to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) for taking initiatives to provide suitable inhabitants during their presence in the country.
The figure has been released by the Ministry on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) which falls on May 8. WMBD is an awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. 
The day aims to draw attention to the threats faced by migratory birds, their ecological importance, and the need for international cooperation to conserve them.  ....

Audubon group plans bird day hike Saturday

Canton Audubon Society will mark World Migratory Bird Day and Global “Big Day” with a birding hike at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sippo Lake Park Sommer Wildlife Conservation Center, 800 Genoa Ave. NW on the west side of the Perry Township park.
The hike is open of all ages, and binoculars and field guides will be available on loan for the hike.
Throughout the month of May, the Great Lakes region of Ohio hosts millions of migratory birds that are making their way from winter homes in Central America and South America to breeding grounds in Canada. Many will stop off for rest and food at parks such as Sippo Lake, which are on the Mississippi “flyway,” a bird super-highway of sorts. ....

Nature programs set for spring and summer in Rensselaer Falls

RENSSELAER FALLS – Outdoor programs will be restarting for the Indian Creek Nature Center’s spring and summer programs. The 320 acres of woods and wetlands is free and open to the public, located on CR 14 off Rt. 68, between Canton and Ogdensburg.
• The public is invited to join the Indian Creek Nature Center board members for their spring workday Saturday, May 1 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Tools will be supplied or bring your own to set the center in order from the winter. Call leader Roger Hutchinson at 315-386-4795.
• A spring bird walk for Migratory Bird Day is planned for Saturday May 15, starting at 8 a.m. with leaders Eileen Wheeler and Joan Howlett. See colorful bird species and hear their songs as they are returning to the center to nest or passing through. Binoculars, long pants and insect repellant are recommended. ....
