Road closures extended in Greenbrier

Road closures extended in Greenbrier Ramsey Prong Bridge is in need of replacement, but supply delays are extending the project’s timeline. NPS photo A delay in supplies for the Ramsey Prong Bridge replacement project is causing an extended closure for Ramsey Prong Road and Greenbrier Road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  The roads closed in January and were expected to reopen March 26. However, there has been a delay in the availability of steel beams needed to complete the project. The closure pertains to pedestrians as well as to motorists.  “With the spring wildflower season upon us, we understand that many people will be disappointed in this delayed opening,” said Superintendent Cassius Cash. “For the safety of pedestrians and efficiency of operations, we cannot allow visitors to walk through the construction zone to access the popular trails in this area. Editorial: State must protect pregnant workers

The Herald Bulletin Editorial Board Apr 1, 2021 2 hrs ago A woman shouldn’t have to choose between her job and her health or the health of her unborn child. Thirty states have laws to address this concern, requiring employers to offer pregnant workers accommodations such as additional breaks, help with manual labor and schedule modifications. Indiana has no such law. While many Hoosier employers do the right thing by voluntarily providing accommodations for pregnant women, others demand that pregnant employees continue to work under the same rules and conditions as other workers. A bill that would have fixed the problem failed in the Republican-dominated state Senate in 2020. This year, two additional bills died without a hearing. Members of the GOP supermajority contend that such legislation would place an outsized burden on employers, particularly small businesses.

The report stated the proposal’s mission statement was to “provide safe, compliant accommodation and transportation to help local farmers in their labour requirements”. It was also proposed that the length of stay could be conditioned up to three months to ensure the project was in accordance with the definition of short-term accommodation.

Since then Congress passed the bill with a modified plan that will increase the child tax credit from what it is currently but the plan will terminate after one year. The editor is a supporter of the increased child tax credit plan and the continuation of it indefinitely.
