Campus community remembers retired music resources supervisor, WVUD host
J. Michael Foster, who worked at the University of Delaware for more than 30 years, died on April 29, 2021. He was 74.
J. Michael Foster
Mr. Foster joined the UD community as music resources supervisor in 1981 and retired in 2010. After retirement he returned in a supplemental faculty role from 2011-14. He taught both college classes and adult continuing education classes at UD’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
He was also long active as a host on the University s radio station WVUD, where he shared his vast musical knowledge with listeners through a variety of programs over the years. Columbus Symphony to Collaborate with Cleveland and Cincinnati Orchestras for MINDFUL MUSIC MOMENTS
The 12-minute, innovative new work composed by Dr. Brian Raphael Nabors will be the first collaborative performance of all three orchestras.by BWW News Desk
Members of the Columbus Symphony will come together with members of The Cleveland Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to virtually perform an innovative work commissioned by The Well, a non-profit organization that stewards the Mindful Music Moments program sponsored in Columbus by the Columbus Symphony. Influenced by feedback from students who participate in Mindful Music Moments, the 12-minute, innovative new work composed by Dr. Brian Raphael Nabors will be the first collaborative performance of all three orchestras. It will be played in schools over four weeks in May as part of Mindful Music Moments and in a virtual premiere at 7 pm on Thursday, June 10, via the Facebook channels of all three orchestras. There’s something comforting about the fact that, although this year’s Duluth Homegrown Music Festival is virtual, the traditional schedule remains intact. For kickoff Sunday, that means a Children’s Music Showcase in the morning. This year’s hour-long video showcase is a well-curated mix of music and activities, with Brian Barber’s Draw-Along Fun Time teaching kids how to draw a chicken and Bootsy Collins (because, why not?).
