State Sen. Jamaal Bailey stepped up to the microphone, entirely surrounded by women, at the July 13 City Hall Park press conference celebrating the 29 women who won their Democratic primaries for the City Council. Eight women spoke before him and 10 after him. Bailey was the only man who spoke. Women are expected to be a majority of the 51-member council for the first time in its history. So Bailey had to clear something up.
Bronx residents demand city waive bike lane fines

Bronx residents are demanding the city waive fines related to bike lane installation along Southern Boulevard, which they say came without any notification or community input.
Many residents say they woke up to find their cars towed while needing to go to work or take their children to school, and they say they were confused and had no idea of car removal to install a bike lane. What happened here is a clear example of how our current city government treats residents, resident Jose Leon said. They make decisions without giving any consideration to the communities they impact. They don t notify anyone of the changes, and, overnight, inconvenience dozens of us by towing cars and handing out tickets. It s just so wrong.
Will Tusk be the next Capalino?
Andrew Yang’s two campaign managers, his press secretary, his policy director and multiple senior advisers don’t actually work for his New York City mayoral campaign. They’re employed by Tusk Strategies, a lobbying firm that’s regularly hired by clients to advocate for or against bills that are being considered by the City Council and the mayor. And the arrangement raises concerns about what kind of access this lobbying firm – and the private clients that hire Tusk – would have to the mayor if Yang were to win the election.
“We believe that it is improper for the same firm to be both a campaign consultant, and then lobby the person that they helped to elect,” said Susan Lerner, executive director of good-government group Common Cause New York. Consultants build “a special relationship of trust” with the candidate, and Lerner added they’re increasingly cashing in on that relationship.

Oswald Feliz, a housing attorney and former state committeeman, is declaring victory in the special election race for the 15th Council District, following several rounds of ranked-choice voting in an election with extremely low voter turnout. Once the city Board of Elections certifies the race and confirms Feliz s win, he will immediately become the next councilmember serving the central Bronx.
In a statement sent late Monday, Feliz said the pending official win allows him to begin the “urgent work ahead of us to make sure our community can recover from the COVID-19 pandemic as quickly as possible.
