New research published this week in the
British Medical Journalfound the coronavirus variant originating in the United Kingdom, called B.1.1.7, is substantially more deadly than the original strain of SARS-CoV-2.
The authors say the B.1.1.7 variant is between 32% and 104% deadlier. However, it is important to recognise these data were only collected from one group of people so more research is needed to see if these numbers hold true in other groups of patients. ....

NA temporarily suspends activities amid surge in Covid cases

ISLAMABAD:
As Covid cases surge across the country following a third wave of the virus, the National Assembly announced a temporary suspension of all its activities on Sunday.
According to a statement released by the NA secretariat s administration, offices of the secretariat will remain closed for two days.
The announcement further said that all sessions of the standing and special committees and public accounts have been cancelled as part of the decision. The offices, it added, will remain closed until March 16. ....

The study involved analysing the samples of over 100,000 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 between October and January and were followed up with till mid-February.

The B.1.1.7 variant includes a number of mutations on the spike protein of the virus like N501Y, D614G, A570D, P681H, H69/V70 deletion and Y144 deletion
