KARACHI: The city traffic police on Saturday announced the imposition of a ban on riding motorbikes without wearing helmet on Sharea Faisal in the first phase to be replicated on three other major roads in the second phase to prevent the growing incidents of death mainly caused by non-wearing of helmets.
The decision would be implemented immediately, said DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara.
Launching a special campaign on Sharea Faisal with other senior officers of the local police, the DIG said that around 90 per cent of deaths of motorbike riders were caused by non-wearing of helmets as they suffered serious wounds to their heads in accidents. ....

In a first, Karachi Police will now be patrolling the streets of Saddar on bicycles, while a portable toilet has also been introduced to facilitate traffic cops.
Shedding light on the initiative, Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Traffic Iqbal Dara said that the bicycle squad has been introduced in Saddar to solve the problem of frequent traffic jams that occur almost every day due to narrow lanes.
On Friday, Dara inspected and inaugurated both the facilities at the Metropole Traffic Checkpoint in Saddar.
The DIG Traffic said that in an area like Saddar which is one of the busiest areas of Karachi   it is hard for traffic police officers to reach a spot if traffic jams occur there because the streets are very narrow. ....

Traffic security plan issued for Hazrat Ali's martyrdom day

DIG Iqbal Dara, chief of the Karachi Traffic Police, on Wednesday issued a traffic security plan for the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA). The spokesman for the traffic police said that on 21st Ramazan, 1442, i.e. May 4, 2021, a procession in connection with the Shahadat Day of Hazrat Ali (RA) will be taken out from the Nishtar Park to the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
It will be mandatory to get stickers to be displayed on the windscreens of vehicles. The law enforcement agencies, district administration, ambulances and media organisations will submit their applications for stickers from April 29 to May 2, 2021, in the office of the DIG Traffic (Traffic Security Branch), Police Headquarters Garden, Aga Khan-III Road, Karachi, and obtain stickers on May 3 between 10am and 4pm. ....

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the pick-and-choose policy adopted by the Establishment Division in transferring and posting police officers after the publication of a story by The News. Shah has now instructed the provincial chief secretary to write to the Establishment Division for reviewing its decision.
Confronting the federal government’s Establishment Division for issuing transfer orders of six DIGs under a pick-and-choose policy, the Sindh government sources said that under the Rotation Policy, the first batch of seven top officers are supposed to be rotated followed by the next batch after a six months interval. The Establishment Division, according to provincial government sources, instead of going by the book went ahead with a preordained selective basis to transfer officers falling on serial numbers 3, 10, 13, 17 and 20.
