Sydney – The Australian Olympic Committee will start vaccinating Tokyo-bound athletes against COVID-19 next week using a private contractor to avoid burdening the public health system, chief executive Matt Carroll said on Wednesday.
The Australian government on Tuesday approved the vaccination of more than 2,000 athletes, coaches and officials nominated by the AOC and Paralympics Australia before they travel to Japan for the Olympics and Paralympics. ....

Athletes representing Australia at the Tokyo Olympics and their support staff will be prioritised for vaccination ahead of the Games in July, with national cabinet agreeing to divert thousands of doses for the team.
About 2,050 Australian athletes and staff travelling to Japan for the Olympics and Paralympics will now be considered a priority group under 1b of the vaccine rollout, the federal government said on Tuesday.
Both Pfizer and AztraZeneca vaccines will be used to fully vaccinate the travelling delegation as some of the team members will be aged over 50. ....

Australian athletes heading for Tokyo 2020 to be given COVID-19 vaccine

Australian athletes and officials heading to the Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo 2020 will be given priority access to COVID-19 vaccines ahead of the Games, the Federal Government announced today.
Officials in Canberra revealed that the vaccine would be given to around 2,050 people nominated by the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia.
Under the Australian Government s plan to administer the vaccine, most athletes would not be available to receive it until the second-half of 2021.
We want to see our athletes head to Tokyo to compete and then return to Australia safely, Health Minister Greg Hunt said when announcing the scheme.  ....
