Aspen Daily News countersues ex-photographer over hard-drive

Attorneys for the Aspen Daily News in a recent court filing said the publication fairly compensated a photographer who it also accused of stealing company property.
The newspaper on Dec. 29 issued its formal response to ex-photographer Craig Turpin’s federal lawsuit accusing Daily News management of telling employees to collect unemployment while still working. As well, the media outlet filed counterclaims against Turpin saying he committed civil theft by not returning a company-owned hard drive with photos belonging to the Daily News.
Oct. 12 alleging the newspaper’s leadership under David Cook and Spencer McKnight rolled out the plan March 26 during the pandemic’s early stages. ....

Kai Beech joined the E.W. Scripps national news team in April 2019.
Born and raised in Southern California, Kai is a proud graduate of Humboldt State University (Go ‘Jacks!) where he studied journalism. During college, he was a staff writer for the university’s newspaper, a DJ for the college’s radio station and a member of the football and rugby teams.
Kai began his journalism career in San Luis Obispo, California, working as a print reporter at The Tribune and New Times. He later worked as a sports reporter at Aspen Daily News, where he was member of two USA Rugby national club championship teams with the Gentlemen of Aspen Rugby Football Club. ....
