Sloman, Lee power to national open water glory

In a truly epic finish, TSS Aquatic’s Kai Edwards and Sloman pulled away from the lead pack and went stroke for stroke with 300 metres to go. Putting it all on the line – and pushing through gruelling pain – it was Edwards who managed to narrowly edge out Sloman to claim the gold and his first 10km Australian title – 1:56:11.44 to 1:56:11.86.

Edwards and Sloman will now travel to Fukuoka in Japan to contest at the qualifying event on May 30 in the hope of joining Kareena Lee on the Australian Olympic Team. ....

Sloman eyes national crown in reignited Olympics hunt

This year s event will have major implications for Sloman, with the top two competitors progressing to an Olympic-qualifying event in Japan.
Sloman said he was excited for the race and especially keen to make up for falling short midway through Olympic qualifiers last year.
With the selection process for Tokyo forced to restart due to COVID-19, Sloman has been gifted a second chance.
I m more motivated than ever to get on that team because I know how gutted I was when I missed out, he said.
