Australia is the best country for wine tasting in the world. While some wineries will charge for tasting sessions, most don t. Go to the Barossa Valley, Hunter Valley or Margaret River, and you re usually able to rock up at a cellar door, try a few wines, then toddle off. The wineries, of course, are working on the business model of you liking the wine so much, you buy a bottle. But for visitors, this try before you buy scheme is tremendous.

When Steve Douglas was a budding ecology student, a quarter of a century ago, he discovered what turned out to be a new species of tree on a street corner just a few hundred metres from his home in Sydneyâs Hills District.
âIt was more a case of driving past it [than walking by],â Dr Douglas, now a private ecologist said.
The multi-trunk tree was, on closer inspection, not a common scaly bark eucalyptus like a neighbouring tree.

Nature trail extended in Sydneys South West
A popular walking and bike track in Sydney’s south west continues to expand thanks to $268,000 in funding as part of the NSW Government’s Metropolitan Greenspace Program.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes today announced the opening of the latest 1.5km addition to the Macarthur Regional Recreational Trail in the Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan.
“Active transport links involving cycleways and pedestrian paths are so important for our growing city and this investment provides a better connection for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Mr Stokes said.
“The 416-hectare Australian Botanic Garden is looking spectacular as we head into Autumn and this new track means more people can access and enjoy this scenic landscape.
Parramatta Park is World Heritage-listed for its various convict-built cottages and other buildings and importance to early Australian settlement history. Old Government House, county home of the first 10 governors of NSW, is Australia s oldest remaining public building and houses a top collection of colonial furniture.
