Seven Mountains mandate: the PM is changing Australia in God's name

Scott Morrison’s address to the Australian Christian Churches (ACC) gathering on the Gold Coast last week began with a roll call of Christian influence on the government. The words were music to the ears of an adoring audience of Pentecostal Christians lapping up the proof of how far they’d come with one of their own in the highest political office in the land.

Then there was “brother Matt”, who’d “recently joined us”. This was West Australian Liberal Matt O’Sullivan, elected to the Senate in 2019, who graduated into politics via billionaire Christian businessman Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest’s Minderoo Foundation. In his brief time in Parliament, O’Sullivan has already distinguished himself as a defender of t ....

'We deserve the dignity of being known': Teddy Cook's transgender speech to NSW parliament praised | Transgender

“You do seem to see us as a threat, which is interesting. I do hope that you know some actual trans people in your life. I hope that I am not the first one you have met.
“The reality, though, is that we are not powerful enough to disrupt the culture of this country. Many of us, even though we are incredibly resilient, are just trying to get through the day, really. We are not the threat you imagine us to be.
“How do I know this? Well, because I see it. I see the rates of suicidality in my community, and the violence. I see the rejection and the turmoil. I hear the stories of people who have ended their own lives – young people, who would prefer not to be alive than to live in a world that tells them that there is something wrong with them, that we are disordered, that we are a problem, that we are a challenge to deal with, that we are something to legislate against.” ....

Mark Latham‘s anti-trans education bill shouldn’t exist in the first place. But it does, and one side effect is that it’s being used to launder the fringe, transphobic ideas of discredited cranks into the mainstream with very little critical judgement.
The bill in question would prohibit NSW schools from teaching that trans and non-binary people exist, and prohibit them from supporting trans and non-binary students. However the parliamentary debate is already having serious ramifications, regardless of whether Mark Latham’s bill is enacted or not. ....

The Libs are desperate to win back Warringah, and I heard a fascinating morsel of political gossip on the subject from a very good source last Sunday afternoon. That is, in contemplation of how to wrest back Tony Abbott’s old seat from Zali Steggall, the PM himself has a preferred option he has been actively pursuing: Mike Baird. Yes, the former NSW premier has left politics and is now prospering in the aged care world, but the Manly local remains enormously popular with the electorate and is one of the few Libs who could pull it back. ....
