As we said goodbye to one of Waterford’s greats Austin Flynn this week we look back at some of the legends that have brought us so much joy over the years.
From the early heydey of the 50’s, Waterford’s All Ireland victory in 1959, to Munster Championship wins and sideline cuts.
We have watched in awe, we have worshipped and revered, but how well do you know these Waterford Hurling Greats??

Although considered to be one of Waterford s greatest
hurlers, Austin Flynn never won an All Star as they only started in 1971 - who was Waterford s first All star winner?
Waterford hurling great Austin Flynn has died.
The Abbeyside man starred at full-back as the Déise lifted the Liam McCarthy in 1959 following a famous replay win over Kilkenny in Croke Park.
In a career that spanned 1952 to 1967 Austin won the first Waterford Hurler of the Year Award in 1967 and was selected at full back on the Waterford Team of the Millennium.
He also won three Munster titles, two Railway Cups and a National League.
However, although he played in four senior county finals with his club, Abbeyside, they were defeated on each occasion by Mount Sion.
Renowned as one of the best full-backs of that era, Flynn marked many of the game’s greats, such as Nickey Rackard, Liam Devaney, and Christy Ring.

Annual campaign provides food for 800 households

The exchange was quick a knock on the door, a distanced greeting, and dropping off a basket filled with ham, bread, cheese, milk, potatoes and other items left on the porch.
Members of the Johnson County Young Farmers worked throughout the Countryview Estates neighborhood in Franklin delivering Good Cheer Fund baskets, leaving behind enough food for families in need to eat for days over the holidays.
For the Young Farmers, and the army of other volunteers who spread Good Cheer baskets throughout Johnson County on Saturday, the opportunity to do something positive for others around the holiday is a special tradition.
Good Cheer Fund seeing generous support this year

Among supporters of the Good Cheer Fund, the Christmas spirit has been strong so far this year.
Local residents have sent in an unprecedented amount of donations already. More than $26,000 had been contributed to the fund by Thursday.
The annual Jim Rhoades Memorial Hog Roast, which splits its proceeds between the Good Cheer Fund and the Interchurch Food Pantry, served so many people they ran out of food.
In a dreary year, the generosity has been a bright spot this holiday season. But much remains to be done, said Jacob Sappenfield, chairman of the Good Cheer Fund.
