City Manager search set to begin after Council meeting

Santa Monica City Council is set to begin the search for a new City Manager, according to Tuesday night’s meeting agenda, which also includes a pair of new items pertaining to housing.
At the request of Mayor Sue Himmelrich, Councilmember Gleam Davis, and Councilmember Oscar de la Torre, staff could be directed to retain Lamont Ewell of Ralph Andersen & Associates to provide executive search services for the position of City Manager for the City of Santa Monica.
Ewell has more than 35 years of experience in the public sector after formerly managing the cities of Santa Monica, San Diego, and Durham, North Carolina, according to the biography on the company’s website. Ewell has also been called upon to serve as Interim City Manager for the cities of Culver City, Oakland, and Compton. ....

Santa Monica City Council voted Tuesday night to re-elect Mayor Sue Himmelrich and Mayor Pro Tem Kristin McCowan. (Courtesy Image )
SANTA MONICA, CA In a heated nearly two-hour-long discussion, Santa Monica City Council voted Tuesday night to again elect Mayor Sue Himmelrich and Mayor Pro Tem Kristin McCowan for two-year terms each.
In a unanimous vote, the council re-appointed Himmelrich and McCowan. McCowan had indicated on Dec. 8 during a council meeting, before discussion or voting, that she may have inadvertently violated the Brown Act. A Brown Act violation refers to anyone who shares confidential information required in a closed city council session. ....

Although he was sworn in as a member of the Santa Monica City Council on December 8, 2020, Oscar de la Torre persists in falsely claiming that he is still a member of the School Board. As part of his distorted reasoning, he also insists on denigrating the work of the Board of Education, deliberately fomenting discord rather than constructive engagement as our school community faces the dual challenges of educating students during a once-in-a-century pandemic and pursuing and achieving racial and social justice. ....
