Action is officially underway in Tokyo after Friday night’s Opening Ceremony, which saw Cate Campbell and Patrick Mills lead Australia’s team into the Olympic Stadium.

1. PM apologises for slow vaccine rollout and commits more horsepower
In a press conference yesterday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was sorry that we haven’t been able to achieve the marks that we had hoped for at the beginning of this year . The PM also announced that pharmacists will begin administering the AstraZeneca vaccine from Monday in southwest Sydney before expanding nationwide in August.
2. WiseTech CEO is Australia s richest boss
Richard White, the CEO of WiseTech Global, has topped the 2021 Rich Bosses list published by the
AFR based on the wealthiest executives of ASX 300 companies. White s stake in WiseTech is $4.23 billion according to the list, just ahead of Kerry Stokes with his $4.22 billion stake in Seven Group.

Will lockdowns induce a recession?
As
the Sydney lockdown drags on, economists say we could go into a recession, but
the PM says it won’t happen. At the moment the Reserve Bank and Treasury agree
but it will depend on how long the Sydney lockdown persists. Right now, the PM
is being blamed for a slow vaccine rollout that has caused the new round of
lockdowns but he blames the scientific panel who warned of clots for 50 and 60
year olds, which has spooked these Australians about the AstraZeneca vaccine.
