Today’s agreement addresses California’s Coachella Valley and Kern County, which has the state’s highest oil production and some of the worst air quality in the nation. The suit, which was filed by the Center for Biological Diversity and Center for Environmental Health, also addressed the Metro Denver area and the Front Range in Colorado. These areas are home to over 6 million people.

Lawsuit Challenges EPA Delay in Reducing Air Pollution From Oil, Methane Gas Industries in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia

Two environmental groups sued the Environmental Protection Agency today for failing to ensure that adequate plans are in place to control pollution from the oil and methane gas industry in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, home to almost 35 million people. The three states are part of the “ozone transport region” created by Congress in 1990 because states in the Northeast are dependent on each other to reduce ozone and its precursors.
