Spain’s Health Ministry and regional governments are considering whether to change the country’s Covid-19 vaccination strategy, and delay the administration of the second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines. Until now, a total of 21 and 28 days, respectively, were being left between the two shots necessary for the full protection offered by the vaccine, in line with the manufacturers’ recommendations.
Some of the country’s regions, including Catalonia, Madrid and Andalusia, had already suggested such a change to the process, and now the ministry is likely to debate the move today during a meeting of the Public Health Commission. The proposal will focus on leaving eight weeks between shots for the under-80s, in a bid to speed up the rate of vaccination. President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, hopes Spain will have its own vaccine by the end of the year.
THIS Friday, Pedro Sánchez has given an indication of a project by the pharmaceutical company, Hipra, to develop a vaccine against Covid-19. Hipra, located in Girona, and Sánchez are hopeful to have the vaccine ready by the end of 2021.

The Catalan regional government announced on Wednesday new restrictions on mobility in a bid to contain a sharp rise in coronavirus cases due to increased social activity over Easter. From Friday, the region’s
