INO Greek restaurant Soho


The team behind Marylebone s OPSO and Athens restaurant Funky Gourmet have channeled the Greek taverna to deliver an irreverent eating experience.
What:​ A tightly-proportioned Greek counter restaurant cum wine bar in the space that was once home to Pittabun. INO -
or INO Gastrobar, to give it its full title​​ - is billed as a live fire restaurant inspired the ‘dining culture of the classic taverna’ with a menu that makes good use of a ‘psistaria’ charcoal grill. The operational setup bring to mind the likes of Barrafina, Kiln and The Palomar, with a narrow kitchen with counter seating the focal point of the restaurant, which is on Newburgh Street just off Soho s Carnaby Street. That s not to say it s derivative, however, with INO successfully capturing the fun, convivial atmosphere of a taverna (there was sadly no plate smashing on our visit, however).  ....

We all know that youth is overrated. But what are ‘old vines’, and what’s so great about them?

The sun was bearing down. We had travelled and eaten and slept and arrived, on a dusty, hot day, at Alpha Estate in the Amyndeon region of mainland Greece. It was September, harvest time, and the vines were heavy with grapes. We drove around the estate, which looks across to the Voras mountains, and our host, founder and winemaker Angelos Iatridis, pulled up by some magnificent old bush vines planted in sandy soil. He picked a handful of grapes from these venerable old plants and handed them to us along with xinomavro grapes from much younger plants on the estate. “Xinomavro. The vines are 90 years old. You must try them.” ....

Rosé, in all its versatility, is now one of the word’s most popular wine styles, captivating drinkers with its alluring hues and easy-to-drink, fuss-free profile. In our 2020 Rosé Masters competition, the judges blind-tasted a panel of rosés from around the world.
Consumers often focus on rosé coming from Provence, and think of Champagne producers making white wines, overloooking that Champagne is responsible for some of the most expensive rosé in the world. Best in show with a Master medal was Comte Audoin de Dampierre Brut Rosé, from a small family domaine that uses fruit from premier cru vineyards. As can only be the case in Champagne, this wine is dominated by Char ....
